From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Thank you for joining us at our school's Arts Night. It was truly heartwarming to see our students shine—singing, reciting poetry, and performing instrumental pieces with such talent and joy. The evening was made even more special by the incredible art installation, where families connected, explored, and celebrated creativity together. Moments like these remind us of the power of community and the importance of the arts in our children's lives. Your support and presence made the night unforgettable, and we are so grateful to share these experiences with you.
St Patrick's welcomed a visit from DOBCEL Executive Director, Mr. Tom Sexton Tuesday morning. Cess, Liam and Alice, three of our wonderful school leaders greeted Mr. Sexton to give him a tour of our school which was in full readiness for the Arts Night. Our leaders chatted with Mr Sexton about what it was they liked about their school and hopes for graduation.
In the DOBCEL newsletter, Tom went on to say...."It’s always energising to be in schools, connecting with staff and students and seeing the dedication, creativity and faith that shape our communities."
Have an enjoyable week everyone,
Darren

Congrats Girls....You are off to States!
Congratulations to our Year 3/4 Hooptime Basketball team. Today they travelled to Hamilton for the Regional tournament. After just scraping into the Final, the girls went on to defeat Hamilton North Primary 12 points to 5 points. We cannot wait to hear more about the students' experience and know a date for the final.

Year One Excursion.
On Friday, our Year One students travelled to Warrnambool Wildlife Park for a day excursion. The students learnt about many different native Australian marsupials, reptiles and birds. Some highlights were the nursing of infants and the hand feeding.

Year Six Camp to Melbourne.
Our Year Six students and staff got off to a slow start this morning, however a delayed train and drizzly weather did not ruin their Day 1. They have visited the Melbourne Gaol, St Patrick's Cathedral and Parliament House.

Thunderstorm Asthma
Thunderstorm asthma – be prepared this pollen season.
Grass pollen season, which typically runs from October to December each year in Victoria,
brings an increase in asthma and hay fever symptoms. It also increases the risk of
thunderstorm asthma. For people with asthma or hay fever, especially those who experience
wheezing or coughing with their hay fever, thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and
even life threatening.
St Patrick’s will implement a range of measures to keep our school community safe as the
risk of thunderstorm asthma increases.
Many of our staff are trained in asthma first aid. We will monitor the Vic Emergency app to
receive thunderstorm warnings and, where appropriate, keep students indoors when
weather forecasts identify greater risk.
During the season, there are some things you can do to prepare and protect yourself and
your family:
If your child has ever had asthma, talk to your doctor about what you can do to help
protect them from the risk of thunderstorm asthma this pollen season, including
updating your asthma action plan. Taking an asthma preventer properly and regularly
is key to preventing asthma, including thunderstorm asthma.
If your child has hay fever, see your pharmacist or doctor for a hay fever treatment
plan and check if you should have an asthma reliever puffer. These are available
from a pharmacy without a prescription.
If your child has hay fever and experiences wheezing and coughing, it is important to
make sure they don’t also have asthma. Speak to your doctor about an asthma
action plan.
Where possible, avoid being outside during thunderstorms from October to
December, especially during the wind gusts that come before the storm. Go inside
and close your doors and windows. If you have your air conditioning on, turn it to
‘recirculate’.
Protect yourself this pollen season – managing asthma and allergies matters.
For more information, speak to your doctor. You can also refer to the Better Health Channel
website.
Aussie of the Month
Congratulations to our September Aussie of the Month, Octavia Webb
Octavia is an outstanding student who consistently displays all of our school values in her words and actions. She is respectful to her teachers and peers, always uses her manners, and shows genuine kindness and care for those around her.
Octavia approaches every learning opportunity with enthusiasm and determination. She always does her best, takes on feedback with maturity, and is eager to improve. She demonstrates patience and thoughtfulness in the classroom, often helping others and setting a quiet example of excellence and persistence.
Although she is a quiet achiever, Octavia’s positive attitude and contributions make a significant difference to our class community. She often goes above and beyond without seeking recognition, for example, bringing in shop items and paper bags to support a class project.
Octavia embodies what it means to be a true Aussie of the Month- respectful, responsible, caring, and always giving her best. She is a role model to others and a valued member of our school community.
